Microsoft Acquires Minecraft Maker For $2.5 Billion

Today, On 15 September 2014 – Microsoft announced that they have reached an agreement for acquiring Mojang for $2.5 billion. Mojang is a Swedish based game developer which created one of the most popular game – Minecraft.Minecraft has been downloaded more than 100 million times since it’s inception in 2009. According to Microsoft, it is the most popular game played on XBOX and most downloaded paid app on iOS and Android app stores in U.S.

Microsoft will acquire a large and loyal following with Mojang but top executives and the founders won’t be joining the software giant.
The deal is said to be far more strategic than financial as the total annual revenue of Minecraft is just 1 % ($290 Million) of Microsoft’s total which is around $86.8 Billion.
After the news of acquisition started making rounds, supposedly the investors of Microsoft aren’t happy with the decision as stocks of MSFT dropped 1.12 % on Monday, September 15.
