We all wonder why the transmission speeds mentioned on our WiFi routers are not realized in real world but that question could soon be answered by Samsung. The South-Korean company has developed a new WiFi standard that is able to send data 5 times faster than the current ones.
This new technology is said to be based on 60Ghz band which will allow speeds upto 575 MB. Earlier attempts to use this band had failed because these waves travel by line of sight and have trouble penetrating walls but Samsung overcame this problem by using ‘wide-coverage beam-forming antennae’. Samsung indicated that this new technology will be available from next year.
In a press release Samsung said :
‘Unlike the existing 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi technologies, Samsung’s 802.11ad standard 60 GHz Wi-Fi technology maintains maximum speed by eliminating co-channel interference, regardless of the number of devices using the same network’.
